Course Description
The 50 Mile course starts identical to the 50K course for the first 16 miles which is up the Harding
trailhead from the Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary to the first aide station at mile 9. From here runners
turn right onto Main Divide Road for several miles before coming to a trail marking for the Modjeska
Peak out and back portion. 50 Mile runners have the unique otpion of going up to Modjeska peak on
their way up, or on there way back down. Either way we will know if you've been there and you only
need to Summit Modjeska once. From there Main Divide Road takes the runners up to the Mile 16 aide
station at Santiago Peak (all runners must stop at this aide station).
The course breaks from the
50K route here and continues on Main Divide Road until a right turn at the West Horsethief Trailhead.
This begins the single track portion of the race and brings the runners through some spectacular
trails. The next turn is right onto Trabuco Road and on to the mile 27 aide station near the Holy
Jim Trailhead. Runners will then briefly pass through a very small residential area and make their
way up Holy Jim (do not turn on the waterfall trail!). Holy Jim snakes its way back up to Main Divide
Road over the next 5 miles. Runners turn left on Main Divide and make another required trip to the
Santiago Peak Summit at mile 36. Then it's back down Main Divide Road to the mile 41 aide station
at the top of the Harding Trail. Runners who did not summit Modejska on the way up, can do so on
their way to the Harding Trail. A left turn on the Harding Trail takes runnings straight down for
9 more miles to the finish.
